CARINGBRIDGE.ORG WEBSITE RATING " F"

In a previous blog entry I was excited to subscribe to the above website.

It's purpose was to have a site where friends and family could post and be updated on a sick family member.

After more research, found the site not secure to my standards and edited by a corporate office.

Instead, I have decided to use the blog style from gmail services.

INTASC EVALUATION

After I read the expectations I decided that I wanted to exceed rather than meet these expectations. I hope that some late nights and creative thinking has created the kind of blog to meet these goals.

OTHER EXPERIENCES.....

IN THE LUNCH ROOM ---Working and an IA (instructional assistant)at Weddle Elementary has helped me understand on a deeper level how children process information.

REWARDS... YES OR NO ???

Who was that theorist who said no ?

Well some children do not know me as Miss Bliven, they refer to me as the sticker lady. Some might say this is good or bad. What do you think?
One day I noticed how many undrunk milk cartons were being thrown away. I asked the janitor and he said around 150 cartons per day.
Since milk can be a good source of protein, I decided to give each child who drank their milk a sticker.

My system in the lunch room has been approved by my principal. I have to give credit to my mother who had my job prior to retiring. She started the sticker program and then I explanded it to the salad club.

The amount of milk thrown away has been greatly reduced and children are getting protein to help them focus after lunch.

WHERE IS OUR PROFESSOR NOW ???

WHAT IS SHE DOING NOW ?

CURIOUS.....

Go see on her awesome blog : babymath.blogspot.com

AMAZING.... We are here in Salem and she is ..... ?

FIRST make a guess in your mind. Write it down. Then add it to your list of possible future lesson plans called.....

WHERE IS PROFESSOR LAURA ???

IN THE CLASSROOM

Salem-Keizer School District is very clear about student teacher relationships.

To protect teachers and students, outside class contact is strictly defined.

Many of my students want to invite me for dinner and socialize with me. I always decline and explain it is not allowed.

Where is Ms. Bliven ???

This would be a great blog to let students follow some of my activities, volunteer, and professional. Also, I would like to encourage those students with computers to make their own......

Where is Jose ???

Where is Jennifer ???

Where is our principal ???

OETS

OREGON EDUCATION AND TEACHERS STANDARDS

This blog is unedited...UNDER CONTRUCTION BEWARE !

What you read today might be gone and revised in a few minutes.

But isn't that the new age of technology ???

These standards are listed consicely into six catagories listed in our EDUC 520 website. Please see details under the heading that looks like this:

OTES,INTASC,

How can we as future teachers begin to plan ? By the time we are employed in our own classroom, the technology that we are learned now will have advanced and morphed into a different form.

So how do we prepare ???

We follow those standards ourselves. We stay abreast of all new technology and use it in our classes in the ASPIRE 2011 program. We continue to push and challange ourselves to usw and learn new tools on WEB 2.0 and any other sites we can get our hands on!

In this way we will contantly be involved in technology changes. As we learned in ED PSYCH,
we are students that must learn to adapt to tech changes, learn the skills and apply them in our classrooms.

Since we do not
have a classroom yet, then we must use our skills in all our classes and life situations. WE must be bold. we must use technology in all aspects of our lives. This will insure that we will be the best teachers using technology in our classroom.

ED TECH RESOLUTIONS FOR 2011 !!!

1. I promise to do my homework in a timely manner, not procrastinating until the last mintue.

2. I will start to do on line banking with Wells Fargo....although I was putting it off for another few years

3. I will enter all my medical records in a computer file for m family membersto hve in case of an emergency.

4. There are many more that I can think of but I do not want to over commit .

What are you ED TECH resolutions for 2011 ???

Please use the comment box where ever it is , it seens to float around. May be it has a mind of it's own !

USE IN THE CLASSROOM

After commiting to great resolutions and study here @ ASPIRE, we will do the following in our classrooms:

Lesson plans + tech = SUCESSFUL CLASSROOM LEARNING

IN THE CLASSROOM
Morning tech class includes all students logging onto their laptop and checking in for attendence.

DAILY JOURNAL ENTRY
All students are required to type a one page journal entry on a daily basis to discuss with their team members.

SAFETY, SAFETY, SAFETY
Students will read, sign and understand their responsibilities as a digital citizen on this plantet.

NETS TEACHERS

These guidelines are short and clear. Included in five sections in our EDUC 520 WEBSITE.

I will continue working on this blog entry.

TECHNICAL DIFFICULTY !!!

PLEASE EXCUSE US ON THIS CHRISTMAS DAY EVE ......

OUR WEBSITE STAFF ARE WORKING TO RE-UPLOAD THE VIDEO !

Somehow in the transfer to TaskStream the video part of the presentation has become inaccessible at this time for EDUC 520 students. However, Prof. Laura is able to view on TaskStream.

Over the holiday this challenge will be resolved. Thank you for your patience.

Please continue to visit our site for updates, comments on other ASPIRE classes, general feedback and communication.

MULT-MEDIA PRESENTATION

BABBLE FISH AND SCREEN TOASTER = LEARN A LANGUAGE
In my presentation, I use screen toaster to create a tutorial on how to use babble fish. Both tools alone are wonderful, but together even better. I demonstrate how to translate from english to italian.

In the class this would be a great way to get students to combine geography with a quick way to access the language. Also, a teacher could get some phrases quickly to communicate with a new student who doesn't speak english.

SKYPE IN THE CLASSROOM, OTHER CLASSES+ HOSPITAL

Skype is computer progam simular to telephone with a video connection. Logging on is easy and quick.

GREAT OPTIONS -- we can connect to a landline or cell phones a month. The majority of netbooks have a built in camera along with a microphone If you are using a laptop that does not, please read the tip below.

TIP--- If your laptop does not have a camera/microphone option, Radio Shack sells a high quality camera by Gigaware that has auto focus. This is beneficial if you move around when you speak like I do !

CLASSROOM-- There are many ways to use Skype in the classroom. My favorite is creating a geography club with students from other states. Every week they could have a competition to find locations around the world. By having a game live with students not in the room, each class would become more interested in learning geography, build teamwork and have fun .

OTHER COURSES---We can use skype to talk to our classmates outside of class to review the chapter assigned for the week. In preparation for class we can answer chapter questions or our opinion of videos connected to ED PSYCH website in our textbook. If one of our classmates misses class due to illness, family emergency or birth of a baby, we can catch them up on the class notes for CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT and all other courses.

IN THE HOSPITALPatients can talk to family from their hospital bed at any time of the day. This is especially comforting for those in the hospital during Christmas. Counseling sessions, speaking with a spiritual counselor, priest or minister offers comfort for those that are terminally ill in the hospital away from many resources. Completing an Advanced Directive can be stressful, the support of an attorney can help the patient understand this difficult process .

WEB 2.0 PRESENTATION, IN THE CLASSROOM AND OTHER COURSES

DABBLEBOARD AND SCRIBBLER

IN THE CLASSROOM---As our presentation mentioned, students can use both tools to do many projects in class and at home.
MATH Draw geometric figures from the basic triangle to parrellelograms. Next introduce the formulas to calculate area and perimeter. Students who are more artistic by nature will find math more fun. They will be excited to draw their own shapes.

OTHER COURSES We can use both tools with a partner to create a presentation for group assignments in EDUC PYSCH to describe our theory of how a child learns using the Piaget model and many other others described in our textbook. We can use this tool to draw our classroom design plan in CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT.

Analyzing Student Data in a Spreadsheet

Data sheet one included the scores of student numbers 6-10. We can observe that the trend for almost all of the students was an increase in test scores as each consecutive test was taken.

The lowest test average of 141 was Queen while the highest score was 217 by Bella. We can also observe more details by looking at the class deviation scores.

Awesome OTEN Convention

I attended OTEN September and somehow lost my post, so here it is again.

What a great opportunity to bounce from room to room and learn how to apply technology in the classroom. So many speakers, so little time. Here are some of my favorites:

Machelle Childers-Podcasting and using ipods in the classroom. Great student made videos.
Grant Huhn-Settting up a classroom website. Chatted about his W. Salem classes.
Matt Symond- GPS for kids. Great to see an MAT graduate with so much success !

I wish that the OTEN has lasted all day so that I could have attended more of the sessions. Looking forward to attending next year !
